This is a lecture course by Peter Thiel, Computer Science 183: Startup, which he delivered in 2012 to Stanford University students. The discussion of ideas and the instructor's experience as a successful entrepreneur and investor went beyond the university campus — reaching the pages of the New York Times. Blake Masters, one of the most persistent course attendees, compiled notes from the lectures and posted them online — the text became an internet sensation. Later, Peter Thiel decided to publish the work as a separate book, and Blake Masters became its editor. In 2014, the publication topped The New York Times bestseller lists, gaining recognition from business circles and the general audience.
